According to the regulations in the “Circular about Issuing the ‘Management Measures of the Special Scientific Research Starting Funds for the Winners of Outstanding Doctor’s Degree Papers and of the President Award of Chinese Academy of Sciences’” ([2004] No. 317 of PEB, CAS), the sustentation applications of “Special Scientific Research Starting Funds for the Winners of Outstanding Doctor’s Degree Papers and of the President Award” of Chinese Academy of Sciences in the first-half year 2008 were recently appraised and ratified by the Personnel and Education Bureau, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

　　Dr. Chen Yapeng of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography won an award of “President Award” and obtained the sustentation (100000 yuan) for his applied research project of “Physiological and ecological response of Populus euphratica to drought stress in the lower reaches of the Tarim River”, and the duration of the research project is from June 2008 to May 2011.
