Commissioned by the International Cartographic Association (ICA), nearly 100 representatives from the Surveying and Mapping Bureau of Russian Federation, Moscow State University, Ghent University of Belgium, Canada, Iceland, Germany, Sweden, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Xinjiang Bureau of Surveying and Mapping, Remote Sensing Center of Xinjiang, Xinjiang University attended the seminar.

　　The seminar focused on the issues of the research of LUCC arid region and surface remote sensing in Central Asia, the expression of time and space in map and geographic information systems, geographic information support of the sustainable development in mountain and arid areas of Central Asia, border studies, the application of the space infrastructure in the oil and natural gas exploitation and regional sustainable development, and medical geography in the sustainable development, spatial information and the Central Asian natural and cultural heritage, sustainable development and tourism, education for sustainable development etc. Meanwhile, the seminar promoted the exchange and cooperation between experts and scholars in related fields of cartography and geographic information systems at home and abroad, and provided a platform for academic exchanges of the information construction in Xinjiang in line with international standards.
