On November 28, 2012, the International Symposium on Sustainable Development of Altai Region, sponsored by Xinjiang Agency for Science and Technology, Altai State Technical University and Altai State University of Agriculture, was held in Urumqi. Experts and scholars from China, Russia and Mongolia attended this symposium and discussed how to conduct ecological construction, natural heritage protection and regional economic cooperation in Altai region.
Professor CHEN Xi, director of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG), Chinese Academy of Sciences and other researchers and students from XIEG attended this symposium. They also conducted academic reports on “Ecosystem Management of Responding of Arid Area in Central Asia to Climate Change”, “Scientific Eco-tourism in Altai Region”, “Pattern and Spatial Development Strategy of Economic Cooperation between Xinjiang and West Siberia” and “Cross-border Cooperation of Altai Region Based on Mineral Resources”.
During the symposium, Prof. CHEN Xi and the representative from Russia discussed the cooperation between the two sides. They all expected to conduct further cooperation on science and technology in Altai region.
