  Source of the research subject: The research subject was entrusted and supported by the Special Program of “Beautiful Landscapes” in West China of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

  Study period: From October 1999 to December 2001.

  Award: The research subject won a Second Award of Scientific and Technological Progress of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in 2003.

  Brief introduction of the research subject

  (1) The whole of regional development, technical integration and completion, efficient production and combination of demonstration, popularization and research were paid attention to in the study subject; (2) Based on the guidance of system ecology and ecological economy and the local conditions, the improvement of saline or alkaline land, technical innovation in shelter forests in oases and stock raising in farming areas are implemented; (3) Saline or alkaline land is improved by taking some biological measures so as to increase the productivity of low-yield land, enlarge the arable land area and improve the rural environment; (4) After giving the broad publicity to the local residents, the concept of “beautiful landscapes” goes deep into heart of the people in Xinhe County, and it is regarded as their productivity to construct the “beautiful landscapes” in Xinhe Conty. Three indicating plates of demonstration areas of “beautiful landscapes” are stood up along National Highway No. 314, and the strategic concept of “beautiful landscapes” is widely publicized in south Xinjiang; (5) Based on considering the main common problems and the objectives of constructing the “beautiful landscapes” in the oases in Xinjiang, a process of technical integration and demonstration was taken in the study subject so as to achieve the powerful applicable technology and bring about the significant economic returns, ecological benefits and social effects. The study results are of important significance and effects for improving the entironment, promoting the adjustment and optimization of agricultural structure, guaranteeing the production safety, developing rural economy, improving farmers’ life, etc. The study results have strong pertinence, good completion, universal application and high popularization value.
