Xinjiang Geography Society is the academic organization of the scientific worker of Xinjiang geography and is a part of Science and Technology Association of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regions. It is affiliated to: Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of CAS.

　　The operating tenet of Xinjiang Geography Society is to: carry out academic activities, activate the academic ideas and flourish and develop China’s ecological and scientific career, promote the geography science and technology and education, produce results and cultivate talents, serve for development of the national economy and shoulder the responsibility of development and prosperity of economic construction and continual development and service of Xinjiang. 

　　The main tasks are to: develop internal and external academic exchange, compile and publish ecological science and technology and science popularization books and periodicals, carry out the sci-tech consultation concerning the important decisions on sci-tech development strategies, policies and economic construction of Xinjiang and be entrusted to implement the project demonstration and appraisal of scientific and technological achievements; and to provide technical consultation and service, popularize scientific and technical knowledge and spread advanced technologies. 

　　Xinjiang Geography Society was founded in 1965 and is composed of 720 members at present, including 580 members with the intermediate professional title and 4 member units, 28 standing directors and 53 councilmen.
