Introduction

Established in 1960, the Station is located at 86.06°E and 45.03°N in the northern part of Regiment 150, Mosuowan reclamation area of Shihezi on the southern fringe of Gurbantunggut Desert.

Research Fields

(1) Development regulation and development trend of the Gurbantunggut Desert

(2) Composition, structure, function and evolution of desert-oasis ecosystems

(3) Restoration of degraded ecosystems and development pattern of sand industries

(4) Formation, prevention and control of blown sand disasters

(5) Provision of technological service and theoretical support for the development of desert fringes and desertification control

Significant Projects

(1) Restoration and rehabilitation of vegetation on the southern fringe of the Gurbantunggut Desert

(2) Selection, management and utilization of important plant species on the southern fringes of the Gurbantunggut Desert

Major Accomplishments

Twenty one projects at national, provincial and departmental levels have been successively finished. The researchers have been awarded two 2nd and three 3rd prizes at the provincial and departmental level, and one 3rd prize at the national level.

(1) Research on rehabilitation and utilization of desert vegetation in the Mosuowan area

Both the method of non-irrigation afforestation in fixed and semi-fixed desert and a tool for planting trees in deserts (a slot planting shovel) derived from the research were patented.

(3) Research on introduction and domestication of desert plants and their utilization in desertification control

Patent

Both the cultivation method for Apocynum venetum L. seedlings on saline-alkali soils and a method of desert fixation by terrestrial nitrogen-fixing cyanobacteria derived from the research were patented.
