Regional Digital Model Integration and Sustainable Development – A Case Study of Great Altay Digital Model

Main results:
Foreign participants carry out wide exchanges and cooperation with Chinese scientists in the way of academic lectures, discussion and field trip and systematically study the construction of spatial infrastructure and existing problems in China, Russia, Belgium and other countries and regions. A great Altay model is built (Great Altay geographical information system, Great Altay GIS) on the basis of both multi-scale geographic spatial database at different scales of Russia and Digital Xinjiang - fundamental geographic information and resources and environment information system database supported by Electronic Industry Development Fund of the Ministry of Information Industry of China and other related spatial databases, which provides a foundation for ecological protection and sustainable development in Altay region.
Both parties facilitated a series of conferences such as Sino-Russia Symposium, International Symposium and ICA Summer Advanced Symposium in Urumqi during project executing period. Professor Vladimir Tikunov of Moscow State University obtained 2008 Chinese Tianshan Mountain Prize awarded by the People's Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region owing to his outstanding contributions in the field of Sino-Russia cooperation on science and technology. The Chinese Academy of Sciences signed cooperation agreements in science and technology with related universities of Russia and Belgium through project execution for two years. Research result will be published in Geographical Information Science.
