Research on Landscape Changes and Regional Eco-security in Central Asia

Main results:
The project is successively supported by Science and Technology Cooperation Project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Russia, Ukraine and Belarus and State Administration for Foreign Experts Affairs for Intellectual Introduction Project. Participants of the project made over 20 person times field trips to the region, collected relative data of resource development and social economy of Russia and five countries in Central Asia, carried out data translation and analysis, visited governments, scientific research departments and units of Russia and five countries in Central Asia, learned abundant natural and cultural resources such as soil, forest, water, energy, tourism and social economy, market condition and demand of import and export, inspected development potential of natural and cultural resources, analyzed and compared natural and cultural basis of regional economic development in Central Asia, studied regional resources development condition and potential of Russia and Central Asian countries and discussed thoroughly the strategic orientation of China in regional economic cooperation with Russia and five countries in Central Asia from all aspects.
Researchers of the Chinese Academy of Sciences participated in international conferences in Russia and Central Asian countries for three times and published nine papers. The papers discussed thoroughly regional resources development condition and potential of Russia and Central Asian countries from various aspects, analyzed changing process of modern landscape and evaluated eco-security in Central Asia. It provides data and information service to resource security, eco-security and national security during social economic development in the west of China in the 21st Century.
Foreign experts carried out research work such as field trip, ground monitoring and indoor remote sensing data handling together with researchers of the Chinese Academy on the north slope of Tianshan Mountain, Ebinur Lake, Aydingkol Lake and other regions during their visits to China, discussed natural and artificially accelerating processes and evolution mechanism of landscape change as well as landscape structure changes, especially the relationship of vegetation, soil structure and moisture, revealed the influence of global change on environment in Xinjiang and future trend and furnished with scientific theory supporting for improving regional environment, economic prosperity and sustainable development in Xinjiang.
