Regional Economic Cooperation in Central Asia and Eco-Security Strategy Research

　　Main results:

　　This project is supported by the knowledge innovation program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Investigators made a comparative study on transnational resource development, the strategic location for economic cooperation, regional ecological environment evolution and equitable and suitable utilization of water resources of international rivers in Xinjiang of China, Russian and five countries in Central Asia through cooperation and jointly studied with national science academies of some Central Asian countries from the strategic perspective of regional harmonious development. Results include:

　　1. Constructed (a). a strategic concept of radiation from the center of the Asia and China facing Central Asia, (b) the strategic planning of industrial system selection and spatial distribution of import and export oriented economy of Xinjiang and (c) research on Xinjiang in Westward Opening as an international gateway and international logistics center.

　　2. Completed extracting remote sensing information of ecological environment condition in key regions of Central Asia, built a comprehensive eco-environment database of key regions in Central Asia and evaluated eco-environment evolution of key regions.

　　3. Determined equitable and suitable utilization of water resources of two international rivers in Xinjiang based on water distribution of international rivers and proposed reports such as Water Distribution and Suggestions of Yili River between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Kazakhstan and Draft Proposal of the Agreement between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Kirghizia on the Cooperation of the Protection and Use of Transboundary Rivers.

　　4. Proposed to conduct basic scientific research on world heritage- Altay Mountain, put forward transnational tourism development and protection measures of Altay Mountain, promoted regional tourism cooperation and suitable development and utilization between Xinjiang and surrounding countries and protection of transnational resources.
