During the period from May 20 to June 10, 2009, Professor Pan Borong leaded his research group, 4 persons in total, went to Uzbekistan to carry out the international cooperative research project of “Construction of the Platform for Researching Calligonum Plants and Conserving Their Germplasm Resources in Central Asia” of Ministry of Science and Technology.
During their visiting, the Chinese scientists and the principals and scientists of Plant Scientific, Technological and Production Center of Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences had the comprehensive and in-depth discussion and exchange, and they also carried out the field investigation and research. Their accumulated investigation journey mainly in the distribution areas of Calligonum spp. was about 4000 km, found 4 groups of Calligonum spp., collected some seed samples, and planted more than 20 introduced desert plant species from Central Asia. They collected 105 groups of plant samples, and each group was divided into 5 shares (less than 5 for several groups), in which 2 shares were remained by Uzbekistan side, and 3 shares, about 500 shares in total, were taken to China; 85 fruit groups and 30 DNA samples were collected from about 90 Calligonum plants of 10 species.
By carrying out the cooperative research project of this visiting, the friendly relations between Plant Scientific, Technological and Production Center (the former Institute of Botany and Botanical Garden) of Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences and our institute have been established, and the wishes of jointly developing the cooperative research on plant science was affirmed by both sides again.
