“Rare Endemic Advanced Plants on the Brink of Extinction in Xinjiang” won gladly a third award of Xinjiang Books Award

The appraisal work of Sixth Books Award of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region was ended recently, the appraisal was jointly organized by the Propaganda Department of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, News and Publication Bureau of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and Publishing Operators’ Association of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and 42 publications won the awards. The “Rare Endemic Advanced Plants on the Brink of Extinction in Xinjiang” (in Chinese) won a third award of Xinjiang Books Award, the editor in chief of the book was Professor Yin Linke of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Tan Lixia participated in the writing work of the book.
Xinjiang is located in the hinterland of Eurasia, is 1900 km in length from east to west and 1500 km in width from south to north, and belongs to the temperate desert region and warm-temperate desert region. There are 4081 species (including 229 subspecies and varieties) in 877 genera and 161 families of advanced plants in Xinjiang, and they occupy only 13.4% of the flora component in China. There are 1773 endemic species in Xinjiang, China. Under the habitat diversity, the particular genetic genes with potential economic and ecological values form in the desert regions, in which more than 80 plant species are listed into the national preferentially-protected species with international significance of biodiversity and the emphatically-protected plants on the brink of extinction in China.
It is reported that the protection grades, types, habitats, distribution areas, morphologic features and utilizing value of 75 rare, endemic and particular advanced plants were briefly introduced. Moreover, the photos and hand-drawn pictures of the plants were illustrated so as to be convenient for the readers to use and identify them in field. The “List of the Rare and Endemic Advanced Plants in Xinjiang” was attached.
