Key Laboratory of Biogeography and Bioresource in Arid Land to Be Founded

  According to the document of the Financial Department, CAS, No. [2009] 257, Key Laboratory of Biogeography and Bioresource in Arid Land, CAS is approved to be founded.

The Lab, based on Xinjiang Cele National Field Scientific Observation and Research Station of Desertification and Grassland Ecosystems, the Turpan Eremophytes Botanical Garden of CAS, the Biological Herbarium, the Taklimakan Desert Research Station, Mori Field Station for Wildlife Survey and Monitoring and the Bayanbulak Station of Grassland Ecology of XIEG as support, will carry out the studies on the biogeographic, bioresources and biodiversity conservation, focusing on the arid land of Central Asia and keeping step with the frontier of the resources and environment issues in the international arid land. The major research fields are as follows:

(1) Development, patterns and ecological geography of important phylogenetic group;

(2) Plant physiological and ecological responses to stress and adaptation strategies;

(3) Development and sustainable uses of anti-adversity resources;

(4) Vegetation damage and recovery during the process of desertification;

(5) Threatening and endangering mechanisms of important species;

(6) Bio-remedial technologies to polluted environments.
