Prof. Geoffrey Wall from Canada University of Waterloo Visiting Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, CAS

On December 7, 2009, Prof. Dr. Geoffrey Wall, from Department of Geography, College of Environmental Science, Waterloo University in Canada, was invited to visit Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, CAS, and communicated with some researchers and graduate students.
 
Prof. Geoffery, taking the Mamoiada located in Sardinia of the central Italy and Dasan, Shanmei in the Alishan Mountains in Taiwan as examples, discussed the relationship between “tourism” and “community”, and explained the role of a community to participate in tourism and the impact of tourism development on the community. Prof. Geoffery, with the researchers and students, also discussed some mutual and interesting topics.
 
Geoffrey Wall, a former president of International Tourism Study Association, is now a professor of Department of Geography, College of Environmental Science, Waterloo University in Canada, engaged in geographic teaching and research. At the same time, Prof. Geoffrey is a consultant in many international, domestic and foreign departments and a visiting professor of the North London University. The major research field of Prof. Geoffrey are the impacts of tourism, leisure holiday and climate change on society and economy. The professor, with Chinese researches, also developed many touring and environmental projects and have published more than 30 books and 40 papers on the international tourism journals.
