2010-12-17
On December 7, Prof. Shestopalov A.M., the director of Laboratory of Animal Portable Infection and Influenza, State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology (VECTOR), Russia, with other three researchers visited Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) and conducted academic exchanges. The aim of this visit is to carry out cooperative researches on the prevention and control of bird flu, the route survey of bird migration and the animal resources expedition with XIGE and universities of Xinjiang.
Prof. Jilili, the deputy director of XIEG, on behalf the Institute, welcomed their visit and introduced the Institute. Russian experts outlined the basic situation of the Novosibirsk State University and the Research Center. The researchers of XIEG presented the reports on animal ecology and evolutionary biology in arid land. Russian researchers were very interested in the researches of bird and ungulate migration routes in arid land and suggested that a joint research expedition between China and Mongolia should be carried out. A preliminary cooperation intention on laboratories, personnel exchange and graduate students training was reached between two sides.
VECTOR mainly engaged in infectious pathogens research. There are total 23 laboratories, 5 virus (strains) preserving and cultivating repositories, one institute ofmedical biotechnology and one collaborating research centre of WHO. VECTOR achieved fruitful researches in epidemiology, molecular biology, virology, genetic engineering, biotechnology and ecology. The main research fields of Laboratory of Animal Portable Infection and Influenza include animals (wild animals and livestock) carrying pathogens, transmission, infection, vaccine development and so on.
