A Delegation of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography Visited Relevant Research Institutions in Japan and Signed Cooperation Protocol

Professor Chen Xi, the director of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG), Chinese of Academy of Sciences (CAS), invited by Mr. Lin Qiubo from Super-Mapping Japan Co., Ltd. led a delegation of six researchers of XIEG visited Japan during the period of December 15-24, 2010.
During the period, the delegation of XIEG visited the National Institute for Environmental Studies of Japan, Japan Institute of Meteorological Research, and Japan Institute of Disaster Prevention, and other research institutions of Japan. They visited the wind tunnel experimental Lab and super-calculator of National Institute for Environmental Studies, and equipments of mobile artificial rainfall and earthquake simulation of Institute of Disaster Prevention. The delegation made academic exchange with the technological staff of Japan on the prediction and warning of natural disasters, the ecosystem assessment, and information network and its future sustainable development. In addition, the project of Asia Pacific Environmental Innovation Strategy (APEIS) which was jointly implemented by the Super-Mapping Japan Co., Ltd., National Institute for Environmental Studies of Japan, Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS, and XIEG was discussed and summarized. Meanwhile, the continuing cooperation protocol was signed and the annual plan of 2011 was discussed.
At the same time, the delegation also visited the Hokkaido Industrial Technology Center in Sapporo. The scientists from China and Japan had specific discussions on the natural disaster prevention of road and snow research. On the International Snow Science Workshop which was held in Snow and Ice Research Center in Niigata Prefecture, the scientists of two sides made a written statement and discussed on the avalanche warning systems, field observations of snow, and snowmelt runoff. The further cooperation of relevant snow research and the specific cooperation plan in 2011 was also discussed between XIEG and Snow and Ice Research Center.
