The Sino-Germany Workshop “Comparing Strategies of Sustainable Water and Land Management in Germany and China Due to Climate Change” Was Held in Munich

Recently, the Sino-Germany Workshop “Comparing Strategies of Sustainable Water and Land Management in Germany and China due to Climate Change” was held in Munich during the period of December 7-15, 2010. More than 70 researchers from Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, CAS, and Institute of Hydro-sciences, Water Management and Resources Engineering of National Defense University in Munich attended the workshop.

   The themes of the workshop including the impact of climate change on hydrological cycle and water resources utilization; the water-related ecological vulnerability and the adaptation method of agriculture and forestry in arid areas to climate change; and the impact of climate change in Tarim River Basin on socio-economic development and the adaptation were warmly discussed.

  The aims of the workshop are to strengthen the cooperation between China and Germany, to further enhance the overall understanding to Tarim River Basin for German scientists, and laid the foundation for further cooperation on the research of climate change of Tarim River Basin and water resources utilizations.

  The workshop was supported by the Sino-German Centre for Science Promotion. During the workshop, scientists from China and Germany discussed the both cooperators, personnel financial support, instruments, field investigation, and the information and result sharing of the BMBF (The Federal Ministry of Education and Research) project of “Sustainable Management of River Oases along the Tarim River” (Abbr. SuMaRiO). Chinese scientists visited the Zugspitze glacier station and the project of ecological restoration in Danube after the workshop.
