LIAO Xiaohan, the Deputy Director-General of Department of Basic Research of the Ministry of Science and Technology, China, visited the Qira National Field Research Station for Desert Steppe Ecosystem on July 2, 2011. The relevant leaders from Department of Science and Technology of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, Bureau of Science and Technology of Hotan region and the government department of Qira county, and the deputy director of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, LEI Jiaqiang accompanied LIAO in the visit.

Prof. ZENG Fanjiang, the deputy director of Qira National Field Research Station for Desert Steppe Ecosystem, gave a brief introduction to the history, the current significant projects, the research progress and achievements of the station to the delegation. The achievements of the station obtained on the aspects of basic research and research progress was fully affirmed by LIAO Xiaohan. He asked about the management, operation and infrastructure construction of the station in detail. Finally, LIAO Xiaohan said that he expects the station should face the region’s significant demands, further construct and manage the station and continue to do research and demonstration work better.

At the same time, LIAO Xiaohan visited the laboratory, the experimental areas of plants’ fine root turnover and habitat adaptation, and integrated observation field for crops.
