Dr. Bobokul Tukhtaev, director of the Plant Production Centre (PPC), Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences (UAS), with two fellow UAS researchers visited Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) from September 23 to 30, 2011, as part of a collaborative effort on behalf of XIEG and UAS.

During the academic exchange activities, Dr. Tukhtaev and the other two researchers presented the academic reports on “Medicinal plant production of Uzbekistan”, “Analysis of forage plants in the Qizilqum Desert”, and “Comparative research on identifying plant nematodes by using PCR technology”.

After the presentations, CHEN Xi, director of XIEG, and the Uzbekistan delegation met and discussed the following aspects: 1) Building field stations in Uzbekistan; 2) Conducting investigative work of wild animals and plants in Uzbekistan; 3) Exchanging visiting scholars; 4) Joint training the doctoral students; and 5) Constructing a cooperative and sustainable development research center for Central Asian plant resources. Both parties agreed and signed a written cooperative agreement pertaining to the future collaboration of scientific research, investigation and informational exchange between XIEG and PPC in the fields of ecology, systematics, molecular biology, plant anatomy, and more. 

Accompanied by GUAN Kaiyun, deputy director of XIEG, the Uzbekistan delegation also visited the Turpan Eremophytes Botanical Garden during their visit.
