Dr. Kirsten Kienzler, Senior Scientific Officer of International Bureau of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research visited XIEG on October 26, 2011. Dr. Kirsten Kienzler carried out academic exchanges with the researchers and students from XIEG and presented a report on “Appropriate technologies for sustainable land management in Central Asia-Experiences from a multi-country research project”.

This report mainly include three sectors, 1) The research of soil degradation, soil utilization and water-saving agriculture, which were carried out in Central Asia; 2) The basic situation of International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas located in the Tashken, and the present work carried out in Central Asia and Caucasus region; and 3) The progresses and achievements of “Sustainable Land Use Project” in the framework of Central Asian Countries Initiative for Land Management, and the current difficulties and problems.　 

After the report, Dr. Kirsten Kienzler with the participants discussed on how to carry out international cooperation and prevent soil salinization in Central Asia.
