Editor-in-Chief of Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment and the Director of Charlesworth Group Present a Sci-Tech Writing Lecture in XIEG

On April 2, 2012, Dr. Sue Silver, editor-in-chief of Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment, and Dr. Philippa Jane Benson, director of Charlesworth Group, presented a sci-tech writing lecture in Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). More than one hundreds of researchers and students from XIEG attended this lecture.

Dr. Sue Silver and Dr. Philippa Jane Benson detailedly introduced how to write and publish a high-level scientific manuscript in high impact international journal from the following aspects: (1) choosing the right journal; (2) writing key sections; (3) preparing for manuscript submission; and (4) where to get help with writing a paper.

Dr. Sue Silver is the editor-in-chief of Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment, and engages in editing work for more than twenty years. Lunched in 2003, Frontiers is a benefit of membership of the Ecological Society of America. Frontiers covers all aspects of ecology, environmental science, and related subjects, focusing on global issues, broadly impacting research, cross-disciplinary or multi-country endeavors, new techniques and technologies, new approaches to old problems, and practical applications of ecological science. The impact factor of Frontiers in 2010 is 8.820, and it ranks the 2nd out of 192 journals in the Environmental Sciences category and 4th out of 129 journals in the Ecology category.

Dr. Philippa Jane Benson received her PhD degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 1994. Currently, she is the director of education and author services at the Charlesworth Group, where she focuses on designing and implementing training and educational programs. She is also an adjunct professor in the Publishing Program at the George Washington University in Washington DC. Dr. Philippa Jane Benson has developed and taught a wide array of science and professional writing courses at Carnegie Mellon University as well as at the University of Pittsburgh, the National Institutes of Health, and Georgetown University.
