President BAI Chunli of CAS and Director CHEN Xi of XIEG Visit Pakistan

During the period of July 15–18, 2012, BAI Chunli, president of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and CHEN Xi, director of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG), CAS, led a delegation of XIEG visited Pakistan.
During the period, the delegation attended the academic symposium jointly organized by the academies of sciences of the two countries and conducted academic exchanges on the topics of nanotechnology, network safety and ecological environment. Director CHEN Xi presided the concurrent session of ecology and environment. Prof. ZHANG Yuanming from XIEG presented a report on “Biodiversity Protection of the Border Area between China and Pakistan–Basis and Prospect of Cooperation” in this concurrent session. Moreover, the delegation also visited the National University of Science and Technology, Pakistan (NUST) and Pakistan Museum of Natural History.
XIEG and World Wide Fund for Nature Pakistan and Northwest Frontier Province Agricultural University, Pakistan signed a cooperative agreement in 2003 and then conducted jointly scientific investigation about animal and plant resources in Khunjerab National Park and Pamir region in 2007 and 2010, respectively. XIEG and Pakistan will continuously strengthen the cooperation of biodiversity protection and sustainable management in the cross-border region by academic symposium, scholar/student exchange and joint project.
