Director Boubacar Diop of Department of Nature Conservation of Ministry of Environmental Protection of Mauritania Visits XIEG

On August 30, 2012, director Boubacar Diop of Department of Nature Conservation of Ministry of Environmental Protection of Mauritania (DNCEPM) led a delegation of DNCEPM visited Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG), Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Boubacar Diop presented his sincerely thankfulness to the invitation of XIEG firstly. Then he said that Mauritania hopes to conduct scientific cooperation on the field of desertification control with China and share the successful experience obtained by XIEG on the desertification control.
Deputy director LEI Jiaqiang of XIEG pointed out Mauritania and Xinjiang have similar natural environment and all suffer serious hazard of windblown sand. The desertification control technology of Xinjiang can be well applied in Mauritania.
Dr. QIAO Jianfang had a brief introduction of XIEG. Professor XU Xinwen, director of Department of Desert Environment and Ecological Restoration, introduced the causes and status of desertification and some successful cases of desertification control in Xinjiang.
At the end of the symposium, the two sides made the discussion on the status of windblown sand disaster, desertification control measures and some scientific issues need to be solved in the capital of Mauritania.
After the symposium, the delegation visited the shelterbelts system in Hotan, shelterbelts ecological project in the Taklimakan Desert, Tazhong Eremophytes Botanical Garden and Turpan Eremophytes Botanical Garden.
