Bai Chunli Attends the Memorandum Signing Ceremony for Establishing Dushanbe Sub-center of the Central Asia Research Center of Ecology and Environmental Sciences

To enhance the cooperation between the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan (ASRT) in the fields of ecology, biodiversity and environmental protection, Central Asia Research Center of Ecology and Environmental Sciences, CAS, Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology of the ASRT, Institute of Botany of the ASRT, Institute of Zoology of the ASRT, Pamir Institute of Biology of the ASRT and Institute of Water Problems, Hydropower and Ecology of the ASRT, jointly signed a memorandum about co-establishing the Dushanbe Sub-center of the Central Asia Research Center of Ecology and Environmental Sciences, CAS on 13 September.

Chen Xi, director of Central Asia Research Center of Ecology and Environmental Sciences, CAS and Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, CAS, and other directors from 6 institutes mentioned-above jointly signed the cooperation memorandum. According to this memorandum, CAS and ASRT will jointly carry out scientific researches in the fields of climate change, geology, geophysics, mineral resources exploration, agriculture, biodiversity and environmental protection.

Bai Chunli, president of CAS, attended the signing ceremony. He pointed out that the signature of the memorandum means a specific action of the cooperation between CAS and ASRT, and CAS will fully support the establishment of the sub-center. He also hoped the center can carry out researches around the major scientific and technological needs, obtain significant research progresses and service the economic zone construction of Silk Road.

It is reported that since the launching of the Central Asia Research Center of Ecology and Environmental Sciences, two sub-centers have been established respectively in the Almaty of Kazakhstan and Bishkek of Kyrgyzstan, and the two partners are Institute of Soil Science and Agriculture Chemistry, Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan and Institute of Water Problems and Hydropower, Kyrgyzstan Academy of Sciences, respectively. Dushanbe Sub-center includes 1,500 m2 joint laboratory and 3 internationalization field observation and research stations, and contains modern information center. It will become a share platform of comprehensive cooperation between CAS and ASRT.
