GeoS4S Year-1 Meeting in Urumqi, China!

The consortium members of ‘GeoServices-4-Sustainability’ (GeoS4S: www.zgis.net/geos4s) project from 10 partner universities located in China, Europe and Thailand met at the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Urumqi, China from 24th to 28th September, 2016. This was the first annual meeting of GeoS4S project which is co-funded by the European Commission under ERASMUS+ programme and it is coordinated by the Interfaculty Department of Geoinformatics - Z_GIS, University of Salzburg, Austria.
The project is targeted on developing teaching/learning resources of 20 post-graduate level course modules as well as train certain numbers of teachers and students from each partner institution. XIEG-CAS is responsible for developing 2 modules i.e. Arid Ecosystem Management (by Dr. Alishir Kuban); and Climate Change and Adaptation (by Dr. Lanhai Li).
The meeting at XIEG-CAS was kept for reviewing progress of the project during Year-1 and planned discuss the project activities during Year-2. The meeting participants also had the opportunity of conducting some filed work in various parts of Xinjiang, China.
