XIEG to Cooperate with Scientific Research Center for Ecological Safety of RAS on Water Environment Biological Monitoring

Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG), an affiliated institution of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Scientific Research Center for Ecological Safety of Russian Academy of Sciences this week in St. Petersburg, Russia, to launch cooperation on water environment biological monitoring.
According to the MoU, both sides will collaborate to establish a joint research center on water ecosystem and public health. Further work will be focused on research and application of water environment monitoring technology. Staff intercommunication and training of students will be carried out under the cooperation.
LIU Wenjiang, assistant director of XIEG, signed the MoU with Andrew Tronin, director of the Scientific Research Center for Ecological Safety, entrusted by XIEG director LEI Jiaqiang.
Established in 1987 and located in St. Petersburg, the Scientific Research Center for Ecological Safety carries out interdisciplinary basic and applied research in the field of ecological safety. The center has 18 labs focusing their research on remote-sensing for studying global climate changes, natural system thermodynamics, microorganism, solid waste treatment, ecotoxicant, soil decontamination and management, bioremediation, economic and social security, pollution control through chemical methods, and water pollution.
