XIEG Holds the First Academic Conference of Sino-Tajikistan Joint Laboratory for Conservation & Utilization of Biological Resources

  The first academic conference of Sino-Tajikistan Joint Laboratory for Conservation and Utilization of Biological Resources was held on July 1, 2022, via video link by Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) under Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), in collaboration with Tajik Academy of Sciences (TAS), Dushanbe Branch Center of Central Asia Ecology and Environment Research Center under CAS, as well as the Institute of Botany, Plant Physiology and Genetics, the Institute of Animals and Parasites and the Pamir Biological Institute under TAS.

  At the meeting, research progress in relevant fields were respectively presented by academician Hisoriev H.H. of the Institute of Botany, Plant Physiology and Genetics under TAS, deputy director Kadamov D. of the Institute of Animals and Parasites under TAS, director Abdunazar A. of the Pamir Biological Institute under TAS, executive director Gulayozov M.S. of the Dushanbe Branch Center of Central Asia Ecology and Environment Research Center under CAS and director Yang Weikang of XIEG’s Herbarium. They also advised on the future cooperation direction of the joint laboratory. During the discussion session, Chinese and foreign experts fully discussed the priority research areas, offered constructive opinions and suggestions, and reached a consensus on the organizational structure and operation mechanism of the joint laboratory.

  XIEG director Zhang Yuanming pointed out in his closing remarks that the academic exchange meeting was the first formal activity held after the signing and launch of the joint laboratory in March this year, and it yielded fruitful results. It is hoped that experts from both side would improve the research fields as soon as possible, establish a platform focusing on the research direction of the joint laboratory, and build it into a physical laboratory to provide support for scientific experiments conducted by researchers from both sides. It is also hoped that Tajikistan will rely on the joint laboratory platform to recommend excellent scientists, young scientific researchers and students to XIEG for exchanges, work and study, so as to jointly create a highland for international talents.

  Attendees of the conference also included TAS deputy president Saidov Abdusattor, XIEG deputy director Zhang Daoyuan, director Li Yaoming of the Silk Road Green Development Research Center, deputy chief Zhou Xiaobing and deputy chief Qiao Jianfang of XIEG’s scientific research and international cooperation division as well as key members of the joint laboratory.
