Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Institute of Water Problems, Hydropower and Ecology (IWPHE) of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan held the "China-Tajikistan Workshop on Scientific Cooperation" on May 15.
Salomatsho Davlatshoev, Head of Energy Resources and Conservation Laboratory of IWPHE, Pulatov Yarash Ergashevich, Head of Innovative Technologies and Scientific and Educational Research Department of IWPHE, and researchers from XIEG, Li Junli and Huang Yue, made academic reports on "Impact of Large high-mountainous Lakes (Sarez Lake) on Geothermal Regime of Adjacent Territory", "Innovative Water-saving Irrigation Technologies as a Basis for the Rational Use of Water and Land Resources under Conditions of Climate Change", "Lake Dynamics and Ecological Effects in Arid Regions of Central Asia", and "Water Resources Simulation and Optimal Allocation in Typical Inland River Basins under Environmental Changes", respectively. Zou Ting, Deputy Head of the Post-graduate Education Division of XIEG, introduced the "University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) Enrollment Programs for international students".
Orif Hamid, Director of IWPHE, expounded the research fields and advantages of IWPHE, in the hope of future cooperation with XIEG in four priorities: water resource management, disaster risk management, glacier research, and the environmental impact of power plants and other projects.
Zhang Yuanming, Director of XIEG, was very much in favor of Orif Hamid's proposal for cooperation. He acknowledged IWPHE's research strengths in the field of water resources and ecological environment in arid lands. “The two sides should continue to enhance communication, online or offline, to find scientific issues of common interest and make good use of the sci-tech cooperation mechanism between the two governments,” he suggested.
More than 20 participants, including Orif Hamid and his colleagues, and researchers from XIEG attended the workshop. This visit by IWPHE is the first people-to-people exchange after the signing of bilateral cooperation agreement between XIEG and IWPHE on March 9, 2023.
