A Delegation from the Republic of Karakalpakstan,Uzbekistan Visits XIEG

On November 21, Orinbayev Amanbay, Chairman of the Supreme council of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Uzbekistan, and his delegation visited the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Members of the delegation had friendly communications with Zhang Yuanming, Director of XIEG, and Zhang Xiangjun, Deputy Director of XIEG as well as some researchers from XIEG. The two sides reached consensus on in-depth cooperation in the future.

During the meeting, Zhang Yuanming introduced the state quo of the institute to the delegation, and reviewed major cooperation projects, platform construction, and scientific research carried out by the two sides in recent years. Orinbayev Amanbay highly praised the research work carried out by XIEG and showed great interest in saline-alkali soil improvement, plant species selection, and efficient agricultural practices.

After the meeting, the delegation visited the Literature Information Center of XIEG, where they learned about the Russian collections, electronic information sources and databases, expressing their expectations that the two sides strengthen cooperation in academic communications, people-to-people exchanges and talent cultivation.

XIEG has maintained good cooperative relationships with many research institutions in Uzbekistan. Great achievements have been made in water resources management in the Aral Sea basin, saline soil improvement, cotton farming and so forth. In future, XIEG will continue to deepen cooperation with Uzbekistan partners and make new progress in related fields.
