XIEG Holds New Year Symposium for Foreign Experts

2024-01-08

On December 30, the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Science and Technology Department of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (Bureau of Foreign Experts Affairs) jointly held a New Year Symposium for Foreign Experts and the 14th Salon for Scientific Exchange (SSE) to reflect on the past and look ahead to the future.

ZHANG Xiangjun, Deputy Director of XIEG, and AIERKEN Wushouer, Head of the Foreign Experts Service Division of the Science and Technology Department of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (Bureau of Foreign Experts Affairs), attended the event and delivered opening remarks.

On behalf of XIEG, ZHANG Xiangjun warmly welcomed the attendees and extended New Year greetings to foreign experts who have contributed to the international scientific cooperation of the institute. He pointed out that in 2023, five cooperation outcomes of XIEG were listed among the lists of national cooperation deliverables, and breakthroughs achieved in building platforms, project application, and talent attraction. He said that XIEG will continue to create a good research environment for foreign experts with better administration and service, and wished that foreign experts will continue their research in the institute and contribute to addressing common regional challenges.

AIERKEN Wushouer noted that focusing on developing eight industries, Xinjiang is leveraging the opportunity of setting up the China (Xinjiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone to deepen exchanges and cooperation with Central Asian countries, and to be a golden channel between Asia and Europe and a bridgehead for China’s westward opening-up. He expected that foreign experts will continue strengthening scientific cooperation and invite more international talents to engage in Xinjiang’s development.

In the closing remarks, JILILI Abuduwaili said that XIEG’s international development can not be achieved without the contribution and support of foreign experts and hoped that foreign experts will continue to support the future development of the institute. XIEG is always willing to listen to the opinions and suggestions of foreign experts and will adopt more pragmatic measures to give full play to their expertise.

The event theme is “Embrace the New Possibilities”. All participants watched the video “Xinjiang is a wonderful land”, and nine foreign experts from Egypt, Pakistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Rwanda, and other countries shared their cultures of celebrating the New Year, their living experience in Xinjiang, as well as research challenges they met. The latest policies and information for work permits, visas, residence permits, project application, and Tianshan Awards were also shared. Everyone at the event welcomed the New Year in an amiable and friendly atmosphere.

The event was highly appraised by foreign experts, saying that the event allowed them to once again experience Xinjiang’s magnificent natural landscape and unique culture, as well as the caring and love from the institute.
