Foreign Expert at XIEG Wins 2023 Chinese Government Friendship Award

Osama Mohamed, a microbiologist from the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has received the 2023 Chinese Government Friendship Award on February 4, 2024.
Osama received his Ph.D from Northwest A&F University, China in 2012. In 2014, he was selected by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and recommended by the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for the Talent Young Scientist position at XIEG, CAS. Since 2014, he has been conducting his research at XIEG,CAS until now.
Osama’s research is directed towards an understanding of plant-associated microbial communities and plant-microbe interactions in arid land. His research could support the development of natural products that may minimize the need for the application of chemical fertilizer and fungicides, which would be an environmentally friendly approach and preserve biological resources in a sustainable agricultural system.
He has published more than 50 scientific papers in SCI journals such as Science of The Total Environment, Microbiological Research, Environmental Microbiome, Frontiers in Plant Science, and has co-authored several Springer books. His h-index reaches to 18 with total document citations reaching 1105 articles.
In addition, he has played a crucial role in the scientific and technological cooperation between XIEG and institutions in countries along the Belt and Road. His efforts to foster bilateral friendship and understanding have earned recognition from both Chinese and Egyptian authorities and institutions.
The Chinese Government Friendship Award is given to foreign experts who have made significant contributions to China's modernization and reform. Fifty foreign experts from 26 countries received the 2023 Chinese Government Friendship Award. Osama Mohamed is the fifth foreign expert at XIEG to win this award. XIEG held a symposium on February 7 to congratulate Osama Mohamed on his winning the award.
