XIEG Holds 18th Salon for Scientific Exchange

The Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) held the 18th “Salon for Scientific Exchange” (SSE) on April 12. The event attracted over 30 Chinese and foreign experts and students.
Professor Hossein Azadi, from Ghent University, addressed the audience about “The Clash over Land: From Land Conflict to Land Dialogue”. He elaborated the definition, causes and consequences of land conflicts and how to decrease conflict through dialogue. He also shared a lot of land conflict cases, including irrigation facilities initiated by government but damaged by strong winds; road construction occupying local land; land consolidation by a cooperative to improve land productivity.
After the presentation, Chinese and foreign experts and students exchanged their views on different land conflict cases.
Prof. Hossein Azadi holds two PdDs: first in Agricultural Economics and second in Human Geography. He worked as a post-doc in different universities in Europe and the US, and a visiting scientist at XIEG supported by the CAS President's International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI). Now he is a full professor at XIEG, and has published more than 400 journal articles. His publications already received over 9000 citations with h-index of 52. He also serves as an editorial board member of a number of international journals and research project evaluator for several international institutes.
