2024-05-24
The Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has launched the Chinese Bridge series to inspire international students and foreign experts to learn Chinese and promote cultural exchanges. The first event, held on May 10, attracted nearly 40 participants from countries including Rwanda, Tajikistan, Nigeria, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Mongolia, and Yemen.
In her speech, ZHANG Daoyuan, Deputy Director of XIEG, stressed the importance of language learning and cultural exchange for international students and foreign experts in China, and encouraged them to master Mandarin and learn different cultures.
The event began with a Chinese language teaching course. WANG Bin from the Postgraduate Education Department taught the listening, speaking, reading, and writing of Chinese pinyin. This was followed by an international cultural exchange, during which Rwandan representatives shared Rwanda’s culture and history from pre-colonial to colonial periods, and from independence to present. They also introduced their unique songs and dances, costumes, and festival customs, and prepared traditional Rwandan food.
XIEG plans to hold a series of Chinese Bridge activities every other week for international students and foreign experts, creating more connections among them, and making the event a “bridge” for acquaintanceship, friendship, and cooperation.
