On June 7, the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) held the 3rd series of Chinese Bridge activities to embrace the coming Dragon Boat Festival and promote cultural exchanges. This Chinese festival was included in the UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The event attracted more than 50 researchers and students from China and overseas.

She hoped that participants could strengthen their connections with each other and deepen their understanding of Chinese culture through this event.

Fresh mugworts were presented to all participants as gifts. During the event, they also learned how to make Zongzi step by step: fold reed leaves into a cone shape, add glutinous rice, wrap and bind with a straw, and lastly boil or steam. After making Zongzi, participants tasted different Zongzis from northern and southern China.

The 3rd series of Chinese Bridge activities focus on Dragon Boat Festival, presenting an opportunity for foreign experts and international students to engage in hands-on activities and better understand the customs of Chinese traditional festivals.
