2024-07-01

On June 25, ZHANG Yuanming, Director of the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Bakhitjan Khabibullaev, Director of the International Innovation Center for Aral Sea Basin (IICAS) under the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, signed an agreement to establish the joint laboratory for Green Aral Sea Technology Research and Development (hereafter referred to as the joint laboratory).

XIEG and IICAS have built a longstanding partnership with each other over the past years. The joint laboratory will not only solidify the sci-tech collaboration between the two parties, but also aligns with the Action Plan for Green Technology Development in Central Asia, which was launched at the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in 2023. More innovative resources will be pooled into the joint laboratory for green, innovative and sustainable research, contributing to improving natural and socioeconomic conditions in the Aral Sea region.
