On July 6, Aziz Abdukhakimov, Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of Uzbekistan, along with other five members of the delegation, visited the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
During the visit, ZHANG Yuanming, Director of XIEG, guided the delegation through the laboratories and the herbarium at XIEG, and introduced the institute’s vision and mission, as well as its achievements in environmental protection and sustainable development, and its sci-tech cooperation with Uzbek institutions.
Abdukhakimov highly expressed his appreciation for XIEG’s achievements, particularly in using halophytes to improve saline-alkali land. Since Xinjiang and Uzbekistan face the similar natural conditions and environmental challenges, he extended an invitation to XIEG’s experts to visit Karakalpakstan and share technologies for saline-alkali land improvement.
The delegation also visited the demonstration zone for saline-alkali land improvement and the 120-mu halophyte garden in Karamay, Xinjiang, and Abdukhakimov expressed his hope to establish a similar halophyte garden in Karakalpakstan.
“China and Uzbekistan have established an all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership for the new era. And the collaboration between my Ministry and XIEG is exactly the implementation of the consensus reached between the two heads of state,” Abdukhakimov remarked.
He emphasized that his Ministry will further strengthen sci-tech cooperation with XIEG, contributing to the endeavor to build a community with a shared future for mankind.
