XIEG Holds 23rd Salon for Scientific Exchange
2024-08-20
The Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences held the 23rd "Salon for Scientific Exchange" (SSE) on July 26, attracting over 20 researchers and students from both China and abroad.
Dr. Alphonse Kayiranga delivered a presentation on water use and agriculture development, and demonstrated the importance of water management for sustainable agriculture and food security. He has shown the trends of potential water deficit and water stress as a function of actual and potential evapotranspiration as well as the impacts of imbalance between water demand and water supply on surface waters in the temperate drylands of Centra Asia.
Following the presentation, participants exchanged views on virtual water trade, water-climate-food nexus and resilient solutions to water management in dryland regions.
Dr. Alphonse Kayiranga is a special research assistant at XIEG. He is fascinated in research on the nexus of food security and economic development based on Eco-Hydro-Climate modelling and remote sensing and GIS applications. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed scientific papers as first-author and co-author with a h-index of 15.
