XIEG Signs Agreement with the Ministry of Environment Protection of Turkmenistan

On September 11, ZHANG Yuanming, Director of the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG), and Charygeldy Babanyyazov, Minister of Environment Protection of Turkmenistan, signed an “Agreement on Cooperation between XIEG and the National Institute of Deserts, Flora, and Fauna under the Ministry of Environment Protection of Turkmenistan” via video during the 2024 Turkmenistan Investment Forum. The agreement aims to strengthen scientific research, knowledge sharing, and personnel training in fields of environmental protection, ecological governance, biodiversity conservation and others.
During the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in 2023, the Ministry of Environment Protection of Turkmenistan, XIEG, and other Central Asian partners jointly launched the “Action Plan for Green Technology Development in Central Asia”. Since then, the two parties have actively engaged in scientific and technological exchanges in the field of ecological environment. The signing of this agreement indicates the high recognition by the government of Turkmenistan, marking a new starting point for deeper cooperation between the two parties.
The 2024 Turkmenistan Investment Forum was co-hosted by the Ministry of Finance and Economy, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. It aims to establish a platform for investment attraction, project development, and international cooperation. The National Institute of Deserts, Flora, and Fauna under the Ministry of Environment Protection of Turkmenistan is a leading institution in Central Asia, which mainly focuses on fundamental research and application in the fields of biological resources and environment protection.
