2024-10-11
The Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) held the 26th "Salon for Scientific Exchange" (SSE) on September 26, attracting over 20 researchers and students from both China and abroad, especially the students and young scholars from University of Bologna, University of Padua, Italy.
Dr. Farzaneh Shakerardakani, a visiting scientist at XIEG supported by the CAS President's International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI), delivered a presentation titled "Discovering Iran: A Journey through Geological Science and Culture." In her presentation, Dr. Farzaneh Shakerardakani shared her academic research journey and highlighted Iran as the cradle of one of the world's oldest civilizations, with urban settlements dating back to 7000 BC. She emphasized how the country's rich cultural heritage has been intricately shaped by its unique geological features, which have supported agriculture and trade while providing natural defenses against invasions. Additionally, she explored the geodynamic evolution that has sculpted Iran's diverse landscape, establishing a stable foundation for the flourishing of civilizations over millennia.
After the presentation, participants had a lively discussion on Iran's geology and world heritages, and visited the Xinjiang Natural Museum.
Dr. Farzaneh Shakerardakani received her Ph.D. in geology from Paris-Lodron University of Salzburg, Austria, with a special interest in the geodynamics of subduction zone and magmatic-metamorphic evolution of collisional orogens, particularly in Zagros orogen, Iran. She has also worked as a postdoc at different universities in Austria, China and Iran.
