Delegation from Khorezm Mamun Academy Visits XIEG

From October 23 to October 31, 2024, a delegation of six people led by Abdullaev Ikram Iskandarovich, Chairman of Khorezm Mamun Academy, visited the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The purpose of the visit was to learn XIEG's achievements in Cistanche deserticola planting, desertification control and ecological restoration.
Jilili Abuduwaili, Deputy Director of XIEG, warmly welcomed Abdullaev Ikram Iskandarovich and his delegation. He stated that in recent years, XIEG and Uzbek partners have jointly implemented numerous research projects that have yielded positive outcomes for both countries. "This visit can be seen as a recognition of previous cooperation between both sides," he remarked.
DUAN Weili, Deputy Director of XIEG, briefly introduced XIEG's cooperation with partners in Central Asia. Prof. ZHOU Zhibin and Prof. LI Bingwen reported the progress,future plans, and expected outcomes of a joint project on Cistanche deserticola cultivation and ecological restoration.
Abdullaev Ikram Iskandarovich spoke highly of XIEG's expertise and technologies in desertification control and ecological restoration. "The Khorezm Mamun Academy, located in the historic and cultural city of Khiva between the Karakum Desert and the Kyzylkum Desert, faces pressing challenges in soil and water conservation and desertification control," said Abdullaev Ikram Iskandarovich. He expressed the hope that both sides would strengthen collaboration and achieve new outcomes in future.
During their stay, Abdullaev Ikram Iskandarovich and his delegation also visited a botanical garden and several field stations under XIEG,and some companies planting and processing Cistanche deserticola in Xinjiang. The delegation was particularly impressed by the high and stable yields of Cistanche deserticola in Xinjiang.
The Khorezm Mamun Academy, as a regional branch of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, has long been dedicated to research on rational use of existing land and water and biological resources, salinization and desertification, and scientific observations on the ecological condition of oases, among others.
