XIEG Holds 33rd Salon for Scientific Exchange

The Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences held the 33rd "Salon for Scientific Exchange" (SSE) On December 19. The event attracted more than 30 experts and students from the Institute.
Prof. Mukhiddin Juliev gave a presentation on mass movements in Uzbekistan. He introduced mass movement processes such as landslides in Uzbekistan, as well as the monitoring and assessment. He detailed specific cases on landslide susceptibility mapping and surface displacement detection, using remote sensing images, statistical methods, and machine learning methods. He pointed out the limited access to high-resolution data and insufficient funding in monitoring mass movements in Uzbekistan, and put forward recommendations for improvement, such as capacity building and adopting modern technologies. After the presentation, participants discussed on monitoring, prediction and early warning of mass movements.
Prof. Mukhiddin Juliev is a PIFI Visiting Scientist at XIEG, and Laboratory Head at the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers (TIIAME), National Research University, Uzbekistan. His research interests include natural disasters, land degradation, water resources, hydrology and climate change. He has authored approximately 30 publications in high-impact journals.
