2025-01-27

Scientists led by Prof. LI Wenjun from the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Prof. Komiljon Tojibaev, PIFI visiting scientist at XIEG and academician from the Institute of Botany of the Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences, have updated the records of vascular plants in Central Asia based on the botanical records, floras and checklists published in five Central Asia countries.

The comprehensive volume records a total of 9643 vascular species belonging to 1198 genera and 139 families. For each species, the book provides Latin names, important synonyms and their distribution across Central Asia.

The classification for lycophytes and ferns, gymnosperm and angiosperm were based on PPG I (2016), Christenhusz et al. (2011) and APG IV (2016), respectively.

Co-published by EDP Sciences and Science Press, this book establishes a foundation for plant conservation and sustainable use in Central Asia. The book is the result of seven years of dedicated effort and collaboration among over 20 researchers from various research institutions in China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
