XIEG Holds 38th Salon for Scientific Exchange
2025-05-08
On April 25, the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, held the 38th "Salon for Scientific Exchange" (SSE). Dr. Govindan Rajivgandhi, Associate Professor at XIEG, delivered a presentation titled "Screening and Characterization of Bioactive compounds from marine endophytic actinomycetes against multi drug resistant bacteria". The event drew broad participation of management officers, researchers, and students from the Institute.
Dr. Govindan Rajivgandhi first briefed the history of the endophytic actinomycetes from marine mangrove, desert, salt lakes and caves environments to develop bioactive metabolites and their rapid advancements in recent years and expanded applications across diverse scenarios. "Introducing new approach of sustainable environmental approach using biological sources of nanoparticles," he said, "Its core lies in enabling how the bionanomaterial involved in the sustainable environmental application and 'environmental intuition,' which benefits greatly from the biological sources." He then showcased recent research work how that involved in the multi-scenario applications in ecological field, and his collaborative research works with evidences. These innovations, he emphasized, offer higher precision and accuracy for ecological and geographical research.
During the Q&A session, discussions centered on data analysis, research work, writing, publications and ethical implications. Whiel some experts expressed concerns about environmental remediation and ecological behavior of secondary metabolites, Dr. Govindan Rajivgandhi called for heightened attention to ethical research in this "unknown frontier."
This SSE aimed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration between cutting-edge technologies like green environmental approach, green microbial sources, green nanotechnology in heavy metal reduction, waste water treatment and bioremediation.
Dr. Govindan Rajivgandhi is an Associate Professor at XIEG. He is a specialist in the field of synthesis of secondary metabolites from various environmental sources using different ecological sources and bioremediation of waste water. Up to now, He has published more than 100 research articles in high impact factor journals and received more than 4 international research grants from various countries.
