Saudi Delegation Visits Turpan Eremophytes Botanic Garden

A delegation of eight Saudi Arabian representatives visited Turpan Eremophytes Botanic Garden under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on April 28. The delegation was led by Fahad Yousef Alhomoud, Executive Director of the National Center for Environmental Compliance (NCEC), and Yousef Sulaiman Albader, General Director of the Eastern Province of the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC).

The visit focused on exploring the garden's innovative approaches to ecosystem restoration and daily operation, vital to Saudi Arabia's "Terrestrial Restoration Complex" project, which includes a Desert Gardens, a Terrestrial Applied Research Center, and a Culture Center.

During the visit, ZHANG Daoyuan, Deputy Director of XIEG, provided an overview of the garden's history and achievements, while Prof. WANG Yongdong presented XIEG's technical models for desertification control, emphasizing successful pilot projects in Central Asia and Africa. Prof. PAN Borong elaborated on management details, including water conservation strategies and seedling selection processes.

The Saudi delegation lauded XIEG's accomplishments in desertification control and the botanical garden's development, recognizing their profound value as potential models for their own initiatives. They also expressed hope for future collaboration.
