XIEG Signs MOU with Uzbekistan's Ministry to Establish CAS Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (Tashkent Headquarters)

On May 20, the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Tashkent. The two parties will jointly establish the CAS Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (Tashkent Headquarters). The signing ceremony was attended by Minister Aziz Abdukhakimov and Director ZHANG Yuanming.

According to the MOU, the Tashkent Headquarters will be dedicated to research on ecological conservation, environmental governance, and climate change across the Central Asia. Through joint scientific research, technological exchange, and talent cultivation, the Tashkent Headquarters aims to provide strong scientific and technological support for regional sustainable development. As a key platform for the CAS's international cooperation, Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia will continue to advance long-term collaboration between China and Central Asian countries in ecological and environmental protection.

Signing of the MOU marks a new milestone in scientific collaboration between China and Uzbekistan under the Belt and Road Initiative. Both parties look forward to leveraging their respective strengths to jointly tackle regional environmental challenges and advance green development.
