XIEG Teams Up with Chinese Companies to Participate in Eco Expo Central Asia 2025

On June 19, the Eco Expo Central Asia 2025 opened in Tashkent, Uzbekistan's capital. Organized by Uzbekistan's Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, this inaugural international exhibition on environmental technologies attracted widespread attention. The Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences led a delegation of eleven Chinese environmental companies to participate in the Expo.

As Centra Aisa's first-largest international exhibition of environmental technologies, the Expobrought together over 3000 participants from more than 30 countries. The Expo provided a vital platform for regional cooperation and knowledge exchange, fostering green and sustainable development. The Expo features advanced green technologies and the most effective solutions in waste management, water conservation, and renewable energy.

The XIEG-led pavilion showcased a diverse array of eco-friendly products and advanced green technologies aimed at improving livelihoods and supporting sustainable growth. The pavilion attracted nearly 2,000 visitors, including Aziz Abdukhakimov, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change; Yerlan Nyssanbayev, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources; and representatives from local governments, industries, universities, research institutes, and international organizations. In addition, the pavilion facilitated the signing of six Memoranda of Understanding and two technical cooperation agreements.

XIEG's technologies, including desertification control, and the cultivation and product development of salt-tolerant and medicinal plants, attracted widespread attention at the Expo.

Minister Aziz Abdukhakimov tasted a Cistanche oral liquid at the pavilion and thanked the institute for bringing outstanding Chinese companies to the Expo. He expressed hope that more technologies and products would be introduced to Uzbekistan. Minister Yerlan Nyssanbayev appreciated XIEG for its significant contributions to ecological restoration in Kazakhstan, and expressed his hope that XIEG would continue to provide scientific and technological support to advance Kazakhstan's green development.

During the Expo, XIEG organized a side event, themed “Green Technologies and Ecological Products Advancing Regional Sustainable Development” in collaboration with the Expo host. At the side event, XIEG unveiled an Information Platform on International Sci-tech Industrial Cooperation for Aral Sea Ecological Restoration”. This platform integrates innovative resources from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 30 leading Chinese environmental companies. The platform aims to match technological needs for ecological restoration and environmental enhancement in the Aral Sea region, thereby improving technology transfer efficiency and fostering international scientific cooperation.

The Expo coincided with the conclusion of the Second China-Central Asia Summit, during which China and Central Asian countries designated 2025 and 2026 as the Years of High-Quality Development of China-Central Asia Cooperation.XIEG’s participation not only showcased its expertise in ecological restoration but also promoted China–Central Asia scientific and technological collaboration.
