2025-08-24
On August 14, the Global Development Promotion Center of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) organized a delegation of eight international representatives to visit the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG), Chinese Academy of Sciences. Themed "Global Development Initiative: Co-building a Green Future of Arid Lands", this event was part of the 2025 China Tour of the Youth Leaders' Community for Global Development (Xinjiang).
LI Xiangyu, Head of the delegation, from the Global Development Promotion Center, provided an overview on CIDCA and the Global Development Promotion Center, and outlined their missons. He placed special emphasis on the development of the Global Development Project Pool and the Global Development Capital Pool, highlighting that environmental protection and economic growth in developing countries can be effectively supported through multilateral cooperation and innovative financing mechanisms.
YOU Yuan, Associate Professor at XIEG, presented the current status and causes of global desertification and its impacts on ecosystems and human livelihoods. She noted that XIEG has successfully implemented multiple desertification control projects in China and countries along the Belt and Road Initiative, achieving remarkable results and offering valuable experience to relevant countries.
During the discussion session, the delegation exchanged views with foreign experts and international students at XIEG on topics such as finance mobilization, capacity building, knowledge sharing, and community engagement under the Global Development Initiative (GDI). The discussion also explored advancing bilateral and multilateral projects through international cooperation, fostering global youth leadership, and identifying pathways for future collaboration.
On the same day, the delegation visited the Xinjiang Natural Museum. This activity not only deepened the international youth representatives' understanding of Xinjiang's natural environment and ecological protection efforts but also laid a solid foundation for future collaboration.
The Youth Leaders' Community for Global Development was officially launched in July 2023 by the Global Development Promotion Center, with support from the United Nations in China and other Chinese and international organizations. It is dedicated to encouraging youth from around the world to jointly promote the Global Development Initiative and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
