2025 China–Central Asia Young Scientists Dialogue Successfully Held at XIEG

On August 20, the 2025 China–Central Asia Scientific and Humanity Exchange Program, hosted by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), was launched in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The event brought together about 200 participants, including representatives from international science and technology organizations, as well as members of the scientific, engineering, education, and industrial sectors from China and Central Asian countries, along with youth representatives.

The opening ceremony was attended by CHEN Mingguo, Deputy Party Chief of Xinjiang; LUO Hui, Head of International Affairs of CAST; WANG Chunfa, President of the China Science Writers Association; Umarkhon Madvaliev, Corresponding Member ofthe National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan; as well as representatives from sci-tech organizations, universities, and research institutes in China and Central Asian countries.

As one of the four key thematic sessions, the "China–Central Asia Young Scientists Dialogue" was co-hosted by the World Association of Young Scientists (WAYS) and the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and co-organized by the CAST Child & Youth Science Center (CYSC) along with the Kazakhstan Branch of Northwestern Polytechnical University. The event attracted nearly 200 young scientists from 11 countries.

GAO Chunbo, Vice President and Secretary-General of WAYS, and DUAN Weili, Deputy Director of XIEG, delivered opening speeches for the session. They warmly welcomed scientists from various countries and expressed high expectations for future scientific cooperation in the region. XIN Bing, Director of CYSC, presented certificates of participation to representatives from five Central Asia countries. Keynote presentations were delivered by Madina Mansurova, Chair of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University; CHEN Fang, Deputy Director and Professor at the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals; and Osama Mohamed, Associate Researcher at XIEG, CAS.

During the roundtable dialogue, young scientists from representative countries engaged in discussions on topics such as "Guardians of the Oasis: An Ecological Dialogue between Artificial Intelligence and Nomadic Wisdom" and "Oasis of Life: Cultural Decoding of Biodiversity Conservation".

At this session, the Urumqi Consensus on China–Central Asia Sci-tech Cooperation for Sustainable Development among Young Scientists was released. It advocated for the establishment of a China–Central Asia Young Scientists Organization, the launch of regional joint scientific programs, and the creation of a regular platform for exchanges and collaboration among young scientists, aiming to promote sustainable development across Central Asia.
