XIEG Participates in Second UAE–China Think Tank Forum

The Second UAE–China Think Tank Forum, hosted by the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in China, was inaugurated in Beijing on September 23. Numerous experts from both China and the UAE attended the forum and delivered speeches on a range of topics. Prof. LEI Jiaqiang and his team from the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), were invited to participate and engaged in in-depth exchanges with high-level representatives and scholars.

This year's forum featured a special exhibition with participation from leading think tanks and research institutions from China and the UAE, showcasing publications and research achievements that document the history of scientific and intellectual cooperation between the two countries. The exhibition played a key role in enhancing discussions and fostering exchanges among academic and research institutions. XIEG presented a series of scientific and practical achievements in areas such as desertification control and biodiversity conservation in arid regions, attracting significant attention from attendees. Through this event, XIEG broadened its collaborative vision in desertification control and ecological restoration, laying the foundation for future cooperation with the UAE.

The UAE–China Think Tank Forum is reported to be a key component of the UAE's strategy to position itself as "a key force in global diplomacy and a reliable bridge for trade and partnerships". This year's forum is themed "Building Bridges and Driving Innovation". The opening ceremony featured speeches by His Excellency H.E. Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Ambassador of the UAE to China, His Excellency CHEN Weiqing, Director-General of the Department of West Asian and North African Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, and His Excellency Abdulla Al Saleh, Under Secretary of the Foreign Trade and Industry at the UAE Ministry of Economy.
