XIEG Visits University of Lay Adventists of Kigali
2025-10-09
A delegation from the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), concluded a successful visit to the University of Lay Adventists of Kigali (UNILAK) in Rwanda between September 18 and 26, 2025. The visit centered on advancing collaborative tasks mandated by the Sino-Africa Joint Research Center (SAJOREC) of CAS.
UNILAK extended a warm welcome to the visiting team. High-level attendance included Deputy Vice Chancellors Niyonkuru Richard and Hakizimana Emmanuel, three Deans, and over a dozen faculty members. Notably, several UNILAK faculty present were alumni who completed their doctoral studies at XIEG before returning to Rwanda.
Discussion between the two institutions was fruitful, covering a comprehensive range of cooperative topics. Key topics included renewing the scientific and educational collaboration agreement, boosting international student exchanges and joint training programs, and enhancing research capacity among junior faculty. Further discussion involved joint international grant submissions, co-organizing academic conferences, and delivering specialized professional training.
Moving forward, both institutions plan to leverage the Joint Research Center for Natural Resources and Environment in East Africa to enhance cooperation across critical regional challenges, such as climate change adaptation, disaster prevention and mitigation, and sustainable development. Through various interactions—including personnel exchange, young scientist mentorship, joint research projects, and international symposia—the collaboration aims to deepen Sino-African efforts in ecological protection, disaster risk reduction, and scientific and educational partnership.
