XIEG Expands Cooperation with Spanish Research Institutions

From May 10 to 13, a delegation led by Prof. ZHANG Yuanming, Director of the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences (XIEG, CAS), visited several research institutions in Spain and signed cooperation agreements, advancing substantive academic exchanges and collaboration between XIEG and leading European research bodies.
On May 11, ZHANG Yuanming signed a cooperation agreement with Prof. Joan Pino Vilalta, Director of the Centre for Ecological Research and Forestry Applications (CREAF), Autonomous University of Barcelona.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the fruitful achievements accumulated over the past three years, including personnel exchanges, joint research, and co-publication of high-impact papers. They also held in-depth discussions on cutting-edge research concerning the functions and services of arid ecosystems.
After the meeting, ZHANG Yuanming presented the CAS President's International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI) certificate to Prof. Jordi Sardans from CREAF.
From May 12 to 13, the delegation visited the Misión Biológica de Galicia (MBG), a key agriculture and forestry research base of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
The delegation held in-depth discussions with Prof. Rafael Zas, Director of the MBG, along withother management and research staff there, and visited its laboratories and field research facilities. The two sides reached several cooperation agreements in ecology and global change biology, including joint applications for international research projects, scholar exchanges, and joint postgraduate training.
